B-24 in Flight

The B-24 of World War II fame served the U.S. in both the European and Pacific theaters. More were produced than even the famed B-17's and its range and payload were greater. It flew with the 15th Air Force from Italy, incurring heavy casualties while attacking targets in central Europe including the Romanian oil fields. The historian Stephen Ambrose wrote of the B-24 European fliers in his book "Boys in Blue".

The photograph was taken during a flyby at a Wings of Eagles airshow at Elmira-Corning airport in 2000.
