Harris Hill, near Elmira and Horseheads, NY is considered the birthplace of soaring in the USA. The Soaring Center offers rides to the public as shown here with a glider (possibly an ASK-21?) being towed aloft. If you look closely in the photo you may be able to see the tow cable.
